Howard Grubb- A Notice

Post  porrohman on Wed Feb 08, 2012 12:48 pm

With deep regret I have to announce the passing of one of our clubs stalwarts Howard Grubb. After a long illness Howard passed away this morning. A loyal servant to the club I personally witnessed him walking with the aid of a frame ,up and down Greenlands hills every week collecting the bonus ball money in all weathers.During the Reds 1977 Anglo Italian cup campaign , Howard flew to Italy with the kit the day before the match against Bari. One of his many roles at the club through the years. Rumour has it he got into trouble with the Italian Police after the match....no suprise really to all who knew him!!

A man with strong views who was never afraid to air them, yet always did so without malice.

Even as an elderly man he never lost the cheek and charm that made everyone warm to him and he could always curse in such a way that you'd chuckle rather than be offended.

A true character who will be sorely missed around the town as much as at the Valley.

Rest in peace Howard.

Gutted.....What a lovely man!
I had the privilege of speaking to him in the Board Room after his life-time membership presentation last season.
One of those elderly gents who I could have sat and listened to all day about his funny stories on how The Valley used to be ran Smile

RIP Howard, Our thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

Hopefully the club will arrange a minutes silence/or applause.

F.A.O Club Shop.

Do we have a spare Redditch shirt past or present?
If so, we could get everyone to sign it and then frame it for Howard's family.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Howard all of my life and worked along side of him many times especially in the mid 80's when Dave Roberts,Tom Beard and John Jenner first come from Worcester City to set up our 1st commercial management team and helped save the Reds from liquidation.I am so sad to hear the news,Howard you were a true gentleman,a man full of fun.i count myself very lucky to have known you.Rest in peace Howard, and may God give your family the strength to get through this difficult time.Dennis

can only reiterate whats already been said. Howard was Reds thru and thru, will be very sadly missed. The hours he must of spent collecting money for the worcester pool are truely unimaginable, without him i dont think we'd have a RUFC.

Should be known as mr Redditch United.. He often made me laugh out loud with his banter at the oppisition..As long as I can remember he was always reds through and through.. Another proper charecter lost from the town.. He is 1 of the main reasons we still have a club to support, with all his collecting and hard work.....
