All time REDDITCH XI

Post  in2thevalley on Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:07 am

With all this talk of favourite Reds players. How about taking it one stage further and coming up with an all time Reds XI. I for one would be very interested to see who would represent a Reds XI with the players that have played for Redditch over the years.......... Over to you folks.....

I think between Richard and Danny, both great guys, great keepers and servants... but my vote ges to Danny, and thats purely on an ability point of view.

such a tough call, both great keepers but also quite different. top trumps would be the only way to settle it! but i agree danny just has the edge for me

Richard’s only weakness for me was on dealing with crosses. We always looked vulnerable from corners, crosses, set pieces etc. To be fair to him, he was a midget! In every other area, he excelled. I honestly can’t recall any silly mistakes that he made.

Danny was a good all-rounder but was prone to the odd mistake. But he never left me ‘open-mouthed’
in the same way that Anstiss did.

And to round it off, Anstiss was a true character, appreciated by away fans as much as ours. He genuinely seemed to care and be proud to play for Redditch United.

Difficult to remember all the players over the years but heres a decent line up. Based on football ability only, ignore any other issues.

Anstiss

M Clarke Exodus M Creighton A Charlton

Mickey Imms M Taylor J Bryne S Hollis

N Sylla M Tuohy

And yes i know Mickey Imms allways put up a few pounds overweight but his ability with the ball more than made up for that.

Enough now.... move on please

Here's my XI with a few extras. I've also probably forgotten some notable players. We've probably had some better players in some positions but these are the ones that stuck in the memory.

Anstiss

Andy Smith
Big X
Mark Creighton
Trevor Whittington

Matty Hall
M Taylor
M Myers
R Field

Norman Sylla
Chris Moss

Honorable Mentions/Bench:
Dave Adey
Jamie Hart - Probably the Quickest player I've Ever seen
Paul Burton
Simon Marsh
Rob Smith
Steve Donnolly
Matty "No Nonsense" Pugh
Paul Danks
Rowly - My brothers never shut up about a "25yd screamer" he saw you score for us with the help of your predator boots when he was a kid Smile. I personally dont believe him Very Happy
