Just found an old pic...

Post  Redditchbluenose86 on Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:00 pm

The opposition was Redditch United and the photo was taken on Saturday 28th August 1948.

The local press stated that the crowd for the game was in the region of 3,000.

In the picture the Redditch goalkeeper is about to save during one of the Spencer attacks.

In the game itself, Frank Treagust headed Spencer into a first half lead when getting on to the end of a Doug McPhee cross but Wilson-Jones equalised for Redditch in the second half to make the final score 1-1.

The Banbury Spencer Line Up that afternoon was: Bill Saunders, Jack Screen, Douglas Woodman, Joe Hackett, Doug Woodward, Harry Locke, knob Pike, Doug McPhee, Frank Treagust, Tommy North, Doug Saunders.

Check out some of them names in the Banbury line-up. Proper men! Senile

Crikey, if success brings crowds, Banbury must have been a good side in those days.

Knob Pike... Crying with laughter

Suppose back then there was nothing else to do in Banbury exept chase a hoop with a stick down a cobbled street. Senile
