Groundshare????

Post  Leethall on Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:02 am

Apparently Worcester City are in talks with Redditch Utd about ground sharing when they leave St Georges Lane from what I heard at Evesham today, anybody heard owt about this?

Evesham are having to fund access to there new ground and have the island on Cheltenham road revamped to a cost of £450k! Cheltenham Town are in talks to use it as there training headquarters! Evesham Utd don't want Worcester City to groundshare by all accounts due to how they are treated at SGL!

I thought that Worcester had a good 5/6 years left at St. Georges Lane? If so, it does seem a bit early to be discussing a ground share.

Plus points would obviously be financial. We would have rental income, extra bar and snack bar takings. (I assume that Worcester would only get gate receipts?) The bad point would be the effect on our pitch which is not the greatest at the best of times!!! Ultimately, extra income trumps bad pitch.

Whether Evesham want them there or not, there new ground is very basic and not up to CN standards. Bromsgrove seems like the obvious choice, but again maybe not up to the required standard?

I am not sure how long they have left at SGL. I would snap there hand off and take the income personally!

I believe Evesham's ground meets BSN/S standards. Bromsgrove's I would doubt meets that standard now, just about Southern Midland/Central level

Pretty sure they have to move in 2013, there is an article on Worcester News somewhere.

I know they have at least two years in limbo when they leave SGL as they are tied into a contract with construction firm St Mowden over the new stadium that they now can't afford.

Barring a pot of money appearing from somewhere they will have to groundshare somewhere for two seasons.

I'd have thought they'd be better off at Bromsgrove.

The idea of sixways was discussed, but the warriors said no.I would certainly have them at the valley for a couple of seasons till their new ground is ready, money we couldn't afford to turn down and could help pay for a groundsman to cope with the bashing the pitch will take.

Get it done I say.
Bar and food takings will be helpful alone, especially with the likes of Massivefax bringing a healthy following.

How would this affect saturday games? Worcester play theirs on a monday but surely their fixtures would have to be worked around ours?

We are at home Saturday one week, they are at home (ours) the following week. Worcester play their games in the week on a Monday...ours Tuesday..no problem.

From an Evesham Official, he did not say if it was true but I was asking him about the situation there. Who knows the City & Utd Chairman maybe talking about this unofficially.

I say if it was something they wanted to do then snap there hand off, if the ground needed some further tweaks to make it BSN standard Worcester could pay. We get all the revenue from food & through the bar, winner all round as Andy & Denis state the likes of Massivefax & Nunny visiting would pay for this and a groundsman.

What I've heard is that the developer has extended their lease at St Georges Lane for another few years. With the current state of the housing market, they are no longer in such a rush to kick them out.
